Driver Agreement
Last updated: May 21, 2026
Before you accept your first delivery on BP Couriers you must read and accept this agreement. It sets out the independent-contractor relationship between you and BP Couriers.
1. Independent contractor relationship
Nothing in this agreement creates an employer-employee relationship. You operate as an independent contractor: you set your own hours, choose which jobs to accept, and are responsible for your own tax filings, social security contributions, and vehicle maintenance.
2. Eligibility
- Valid Jamaican driver's licence appropriate for your vehicle class
- Active vehicle insurance (third-party or comprehensive) in your own name or with your written authorisation to drive
- A roadworthy vehicle that passed its last fitness inspection
- A smartphone capable of running the BP Couriers driver app
- No active disqualification or pending serious traffic offence
3. Payments
- You earn a per-job rate displayed in the driver app before you accept
- Payouts run weekly, every Friday, for the previous Monday–Sunday period
- BP Couriers retains a service fee (currently 30%) of each completed booking
- Cash-on-delivery jobs: you collect the cash on our behalf and we reconcile it against your weekly payout
4. Conduct & safety
- No deliveries while under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, or any medication that impairs driving
- No use of the phone in hand while driving (Road Traffic Act offence)
- Be respectful and professional with every customer and recipient
- Wear or display the BP Couriers identification when meeting recipients
- Take Proof of Delivery (photo + recipient name) on every drop-off
- Never open a parcel — if it's already damaged, photograph it and contact dispatch immediately
5. Prohibited cargo
If a customer hands you a parcel you reasonably suspect contains illegal drugs, weapons, explosives, or any other prohibited item under our Terms of Service §4, refuse the job and report it to dispatch. You will be paid the cancellation fee.
6. Data & privacy
- Customer phone numbers and addresses are confidential — use them only to complete the job
- Don't store screenshots, photos, or copies of customer data outside the BP Couriers app
- Don't contact a customer for personal reasons after the job is complete
- We capture your geolocation only while you have an active job; you can decline location sharing at any other time
7. Suspension & termination
We may suspend or terminate your access for any of:
- Customer ratings consistently below 3.5/5
- Confirmed theft, fraud, or assault
- Driving under the influence
- Repeated no-shows or cancellation after accepting
- Sharing your account credentials with a third party
We notify you of suspension in writing (email + in-app), giving you the chance to respond before any permanent termination.
8. Insurance & liability
BP Couriers carries cargo liability insurance covering parcels in transit (J$25,000 default per parcel, see Terms §7). You remain responsible for third-party liability arising from how you drive your vehicle — your personal vehicle insurance is the primary cover for any road incident.
9. Tax
As an independent contractor you are responsible for declaring your BP Couriers earnings to Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) and meeting any GCT obligation if you exceed the registration threshold. We issue an annual earnings statement on request.
10. Changes & governing law
We may update this agreement with at least 14 days' notice. Continued use of the driver app after the effective date means you accept the change. This agreement is governed by the laws of Jamaica.
